After high school, I had to stop studying because of financial problems, but I really wanted to become a teacher. When my churchmate mentioned the scholarship that was being offered by GRC, I started hoping that maybe there was still a chance to achieve my dream of becoming an educator.
The mission and vision of GRC played an important role in my personal and professional development. It guided me to do my best and become a better version of myself, as well as to become a successful student and a better person, as our school challenges us to commit to excellence and good values.
There were situations where I no longer had enough money to sustain my needs, and I had to budget P50.00 for a week because that’s all I had. I am grateful because there were people who even brought extra food for me so that I could eat during lunch. Working part-time really helped me, and those enduring times were over even before I realized it.
“GRC truly helped me in all aspects of my life. Many people think that schools are important because of academic-related matters, but for me, it’s beyond that. The community of GRC helped me realize that there are people who are always willing to help without asking for anything in return. Likewise, the guidance of my professors was priceless because it was not limited to academic-related instructions. Our library was also a blessing in my life; it was and still is my safe space, and it also helped me to truly enjoy literature and learn many things despite the reality that I had no money to buy books.
GRC taught me to give back, and I’m simply trying to live with the idea of reciprocity. It is fulfilling and rewarding to be a part of the journey of many students who are doing their best to achieve their dreams despite the difficulties in life.”
One of my unforgettable moments in GRC was the time when I almost wanted to give up everything, but the encouragement from my professor made me realize that there are still many things that await me, and if I continue, my situation in life will change, and it did. It might be slow progress, but just like they said, it is still progress, and I should be grateful.
Continuous learning and self-learning are very important for personal and professional development. Continuously seeking new knowledge and skills helps individuals thrive, remain adaptable in a rapidly changing world, and lead more fulfilling lives overall. It’s a lifelong journey that opens doors to new opportunities and enriches personal experiences. Most importantly, learning new things allows me to share new things with my students at the same time.
Teaching and learning are always related to each other. Learning new things will also help us develop our skills. For everyone who wanted to do the same, just like many people say, “Do what you love, love what you do”.
Education was my lifeline, and I am hoping that in my journey as a teacher, my students will also learn the value of life and education.
Just keep moving forward and never give up.
